The name “Dendrobium” comes from the Ancient Greek words dendron, meaning tree, and bios, meaning life. This reflects how many orchid varieties naturally grow attached to tree branches in tropical environments. Their unique growing habit makes them one of the most fascinating flowering plants to keep indoors.
Dendrobium orchids are a wonderful choice for brightening living spaces, desks or tabletops, and they also make thoughtful plant gifts. With the right care and bright, indirect light, these elegant orchids will reward you with beautiful blooms that add colour and character to your home.
Care Instructions
- Loves bright indirect sunlight. Thrives best near a south-facing window.
- In warmer months, move to a shaded area during the day to avoid their leaves becoming scorched.
- During active growth of the orchid in the summer, water thoroughly once the potting media is almost dry. Use your finger to monitor the dryness of
the potting media, to get an idea of when it needs to be watered. - Water your dendrobium orchid in the morning if possible. Increased heat, light, and ventilation during the day allows excess water to evaporate, which is particularly important to reduce the risk of fungal disease.
