Nepenthes Alata – Tropical Pitcher Plant
A fascinating carnivorous plant from the Philippines, the Nepenthes Alata is loved for its striking hanging pitchers, which naturally trap and digest insects. With lush green foliage and colourful pitchers, it makes a unique and eye-catching addition to any indoor plant collection. It enjoys bright, indirect light, warmth and high humidity.
Care Instructions
- Place in a bright spot with plenty of indirect sunlight. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and pitchers.
- This plant needs high humidity to thrive. A naturally humid room such as a bathroom or kitchen is ideal.
- Avoid placing it beside radiators or in dry, draughty areas. If your home is particularly dry, a humidifier can help.
- Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never waterlogged.
- Use rainwater, distilled water or filtered/reverse-osmosis water, as tap water can contain minerals that may build up and damage the plant.
- Keep warm and away from cold draughts. Normal household temperatures are generally suitable, provided the plant is kept away from radiators and cold windows.
Nepenthes are carnivorous plants and naturally obtain nutrients from insects. Do not use regular houseplant fertiliser.
